At Axelum, we strongly believe that formal education is key to a brighter future. As such, we are committed to continuously providing educational opportunities to the people of Medina. We grant academic scholarships to deserving students and distribute books and other school supplies. On top of that, we donate knowledge centers and classrooms to promote a more conducive and enhanced learning environment.
Since 2007, we have sponsored over 500 community students in various colleges in Medina, Gingoog City, Camiguin, Bukidnon, Cagayan de Oro, Davao and Metro Manila. At present, we employ 29 graduates of the scholarship program.
In 2020, despite the pandemic, we pursued our most significant infrastructure and service project to date, the construction of the San Isidro Polymedic General Hospital in Gingoog City. This venture is envisioned to provide direct access to basic healthcare for 350,000+ community residents in surrounding neighborhoods particularly indigent patients. Scheduled to be operational by 2023, this pioneering secondary-level hospital will feature 100 beds, extended laboratory and diagnostic services, imaging, hemodialysis, intensive care, charity wards, emergency room and private consultations.
To foster sustainable livelihood, we capitalized on the vast agricultural potential of our area by maintaining an organic community farm, where local farmers are trained to cultivate a variety of fruits and vegetable crops. In addition, we distribute assorted seedlings and planting equipment, while extending financial support for poultry and hog-raising activities. Our objective is to offer alternative livelihood opportunities for community residents to augment household income. As of 2021, there are 78 enrolled farmers in our organic community farm, together with more than 2,000 indirect beneficiaries.
We believe in the importance of strengthening one’s faith and moral being through Eucharistic celebrations, religious retreats and daily prayers. These activities promote collective rapport, unity and servant leadership.
