At Axelum, we regard our people as the fundamental asset of the organization. Our culture is hinged on the spirit of familial togetherness. Each member, regardless of position, is considered a vital contributor to our success. In return, Axelum continues to institute programs geared towards people development, ensuring a safe working environment, above-average industry compensation, among others.
Axelum offers above-average industry compensation to its people. Aside from government-mandated benefits, we provide our workers with health insurance, housing assistance, bereavement support, flexible work arrangements and various types of individual loans at zero-interest amortization.
We believe that investing in our people will result to enhanced productivity, stronger motivation and employee retention. We regularly offer various training programs including in-house modules or external courses to harness individual talent and skills. In general, each employee undergoes around 26 hours of training on average annually.
For 2020, the Board of Directors and key officers held its yearly learning session on corporate governance. Some of the modules conducted last year included anti-corruption, business ethics and anti-fraud/bribery.
Ensuring a safe working environment is of utmost priority. At this time, all employees and workers are required to wear personal protective equipment, face masks, face shields and strictly observe intensified health protocols. A 24-hour medical clinic is located within plant premises to respond to health emergencies. In addition, we adopt the Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit (SMETA) principles to adhere to the highest standards of best practices on labor, health, safety and ethics.
In 2020, Axelum recorded zero work-related fatalities and a total of 822,301 safety man-hours. The Medina Reaction Team conducted its annual joint fire awareness exercise with the Bureau of Fire Protection, supplemented by 20 separate safety drills throughout the year.
We are cognizant of the need to uphold the basic rights and dignity of every person. We have established a sound working environment, guided by policies that promote fair and equal treatment. As a Sedex member, we are compliant with the Ethical Trading Initiative Base Codes that espouse practices on freedom of association, anti-child labor, non-discrimination, paid living wages, regular employment and working hours, safe and hygienic working conditions, among others.
In 2020, employees averaged six (6) hours of training on human rights.
